Casey + Heather: Point Dume Engagement Session

MALIBU ENGAGEMENT SESSION

Casey and Heather flew out to the west coast to visit their siblings, so instead of doing their engagement session in New York, we met up in Malibu! We originally had some pretty epic New York engagement photo ideas, but of course covid happened and we had to postpone. Heather also didn’t want to take engagement photos until they had a ring, which of course they did for their engagement session at Point Dume.

Since Heather works in fashion, I knew their outfits would be on point! Heather messaged me before the shoot to see if they could plan for 3 outfits and to jump in the ocean at the end. Most couples say “oh yeah we want to do some ocean photos” until they realize they have to get in the ocean (haha!), but Casey and Heather definitely committed!! Andy + Jordan: Vasquez Rocks Anniversary Session

A VASQUEZ ROCKS ANNIVERSARY SESSION

Andy and Jordan were between Malibu Creek Park or Vasquez Rocks for their engagement session. We wound up doing Malibu Creek State Park (check it out!) then their micro-wedding happened in August 2020. They originally had only used part of their hours of coverage with plans to do either a bigger wedding the following year or a party/reception with friends and family who couldn’t be at their micro-wedding. Fast forward a few months, they quickly decided they likely wouldn’t do anything in CA / would probably do something out of state with Jordan’s family. I told them to keep me updated regardless of it being in/out of state.

With no plans for a reception or out of state wedding, I kept thinking about what I could do for them with the additional hours of coverage they had with me. They never asked for a refund and didn’t expect anything, but deep down I felt like I needed to fulfill my end of the agreement in some form. I offered to use their remaining time toward an anniversary session and suggested we finally take photos at Vasquez Rocks. To make it even better, we wound up doing the shoot almost exactly one year from their original wedding date. The pictures were magical and it was so fun catching up with them!

Bret + Marlene: Beverly Hills Couple Shoot

A BEVERLY HILLS COUPLE SHOOT

Bret and I have a few mutual friends, so I was pumped when he reached out about doing a shoot. We pulled together some ideas and inspiration then met up in Beverly Hills at one of his favorite locations. He’s a photographer as well, so I definitely felt the pressure leading up to this shoot. Andy + Jordan: Malibu Creek State Park Engagement Session

A MALIBU CREEK STATE PARK ENGAGEMENT SESSION

These two get married in a month!! It’s been a whirlwind of a year, but especially the last week for these two! First, their venue gave them the okay to move forward with a reduced guest count as long as people wore masks. 2 days later, their venue said they wouldn’t be able to hold their wedding on their original date. 2 days after that, the venue said possibly, but not for sure. Talk about stressful, especially when you’re trying to update your vendors because hello you’re getting married in a month.

I imagine so many couples are going through this exact same thing! We were all hopeful late summer and fall weddings would be able to happen, but with this new round of closures in California… it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. If you’re in a stressful situation like this, talk to your vendors! You don’t have to do this alone.

I’m in this with Andy and Jordan as they make new plans. We’re checking out a new outdoor location this weekend for their intimate wedding! Fingers crossed!

Keith + Lauren: Point Dume Malibu Engagement Photographer

A POINT DUME ENGAGEMENT SESSION

If you’re looking for gorgeous, golden photos at sunset, look no further! Point Dume in Malibu should be at the top of your list for engagement photo locations. You have the beach, which can give you a variety of locations - right by the water, on the sand, and by the rocks. You also have access to the cliffs - an easy hike to the top and you get the view you see above. There are a few levels of the cliffs, so you have options at the top, which is actually where we spent most of our time. Normally, I start down on the beach and end at the top of the cliffs, but Keith and Lauren loved the cliffs so much and it was so beautiful, we had to stay up there.

Pro tip: Don’t forget to bring props, too. Even a simple blanket can add so much to your shoot - keep scrolling to see how Keith and Lauren used a blanket in their shoot.
