Today we’re talking all about taking family photos for Rocky & Karissa and their sweet baby boy at the Quail Hill Trailhead in Orange County. This location is always a favorite, but what makes it even better is the magic of the rain. The rain brings green fields and plants, making this usually dead area come to life! And surprisingly, the new year is the best time for family photos if you want green backdrops.
I was so excited to photograph Rocky & Karissa’s family's first-ever family photos on the outskirts of Quail Hill Trailhead. Due to a lot of rain, the trail itself was closed, but that didn't stop us from taking amazing photos. Luckily, we had our cameras ready for action because the rain had created an incredible atmosphere for family photos. It was so so beautiful and green at Quail Hill, it was magical.
I started shooting and found that there was much to explore and discover outside the typical trail. Although we faced some challenges due to the trail's closure, we were still able to capture some fantastic shots. From the different photo locations to the variety of poses, I couldn’t help snapping a ton of photos!
From Weddings to Family Photos
It was such a joy to work with this family once again. I had the privilege of photographing their wedding back in November 2021, then captured their beautiful maternity photos, and now their first family photos! Quail Hill Trailhead remains one of our favorite locations, and despite the trail's closure, we were still able to create magical memories. This is also your reminder that you can still take family photos after the holidays that you will cherish just as much!

My best advice, timing is everything when it comes to family photos, and Quail Hill Trailhead is an excellent location to capture family memories. Don't worry if the trail is unavailable; there are plenty of other places to explore and create memories.
